Studio Policies & FAQs
Kindness in the Studio
At Mt. Lassen Dance Academy, kindness is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to fostering a culture of respect, encouragement, and positivity among our students, between students and teachers, and within our teaching team. Our instructors actively promote teamwork and support in every class, creating an uplifting environment where all dancers can thrive. Bullying or unkind behavior is never tolerated. Any such incidents will be addressed privately between the students involved and their instructor. If necessary, additional steps—such as parent involvement or further disciplinary action—may be taken to ensure a safe and welcoming studio atmosphere for all.
Nutrition & Burnout
We ask that all dancers eat a balanced meal with protein before class and bring a snack and electrolytes if attending multiple classes in one day. To prevent burnout and reduce injury risk, we encourage families to be mindful of physical overload. Dancers coming from packed athletic schedules may struggle with energy and focus in class. For those serious about progressing in dance, we recommend limiting other physical activities or spreading them out across the week.
Injury Prevention
Our studio is dedicated to injury prevention in our students. We will not allow a student to do a move that could cause injury, unsupervised or without appropriate instruction and guidance. We strive towards intentional technical application that builds a dancer’s strength and coordination; preventing injury.
Pointe Shoes
Pointe shoes are a wonderful ballet tool that must be earned by a dancer through years of ballet and technical classes. A student will not receive pointe shoes until she is deemed strong and mature enough in her dancing by her teachers. A student must have appropriate ankle, foot, and core strength before getting pointe shoes. They are a wonderful tool but can be dangerous if not danced in by a mature dancer. Please be advised we will not support a parent purchasing pointe shoes for their child without the approval of a teacher.
Observation Guidelines
We offer a designated waiting area with a viewing window where parents and visitors can comfortably observe classes without disrupting instruction. Please enjoy watching from this space during regular class times. Visitors may be invited into the studio on special occasions, such as observation days or showcases, at the discretion of the instructor.
Cecchetti Method of Ballet
We are proud to teach the Cecchetti Method of Ballet, a classical technique rooted in Italian tradition that emphasizes technical precision, artistic expression, and strength in movement. Our instructors are highly trained—either through Cecchetti certification or other intensive dance programs—and bring a wealth of experience to the classroom. In addition, our student teachers are mentored and enrolled in programs focused on teaching techniques and classroom management, ensuring a strong and supportive learning environment for every dancer.
